Michigan football recruiting was trending up before the Wolverines' 13-10 win over Ohio State. But now that they showed they can still do the things they used to do under Jim Harbaugh, and under first-year head coach Sherone Moore, it should take off even more.
Jordan Young, a four-star defensive back who has been a long-time target of the Wolverines, as well as a Clemson commitment, at least before Sunday, has flipped his commitment to Michigan football.
Out of Monroe, North Carolina, Young is ranked No. 150 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's ranked as the No. 5 athlete too.
In some ways, this can also make up for the loss of Ivan Taylor. It sounds like Young could be a safety or a nickel for Michigan football and here are three thoughts on the 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back.
Not surprising after "The Game"
Michigan football dominated Ohio State on defense. The secondary, which was pieced together, was stellar. The only reception of longer than 20 yards went to a running back. Jeremiah Smith didn't have a reception of longer than 10 yards and no receiver had a catch longer than 18.
Wink Martindale deserves plenty of credit. So does the defensive line but the secondary and coach Lamar Morgan deserve a ton of credit too. They came up with two-game changing interceptions.
Michigan football scored a touchdown because of one and kept Ohio State from scoring a touchdown or field goal because of the other.
So it's not surprising that Young would want to join that secondary. Why wouldn't you?
A versatile piece
If you read the scouting report and watch the highlights, you'll see a guy who can play all over the field. Young is listed as an athlete and he played some wide receiver in high school but he's a defensive back.
Young is a jumper and sprinter in track. He also plays basketball. Even on the football field, he moves around a lot. It will be interesting to see how he develops. Young can essentially be a big nickel (safety). You want someone who can cover and tackle and Young can do both.
Regardless of the position, Young is an exciting piece to add to a haul that features five defensive backs ranked in the top 204 overall.
Been a good weekend for Lamar Morgan.
Keep the momentum rolling
Michigan football is now ranked seventh in the 2025 team rankings according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and with Early Signing Day on Wednesday, they aren't showing any signs of slowing down.
It remains to be seen if they can get another flip or two. Michigan has been projected to land transfer wideout Donvaen McCulley formerly of Indiana. He didn't play much this season but was really good with 664 receiving yards in 2023. He's also 6-foot-5.
The Wolverines should be active in the portal and the 2026 class should benefit from Bryce Underwood, even though Brady Hart flipped to Texas A&M.
With Michigan actually playing the NIL game now, another win over Ohio State could pay huge dividends. Young's commitment is the first sign of that.
