3 thoughts from Michigan's month long recruiting rampage

From the beginning of summer to the fourth of July Michigan football experienced a cavalcade of commitments that skyrocketed their class up the rankings.

Through Sherrone Moore's first two years on the job, he has raised the bar at Michigan. He's building off of a top 10 class with one that is on the precipice of overtaking his first. Over the last month, Michigan's staff proved that last year wasn't a fluke. Here are some thoughts about the recent recruiting barrage.

1. The trenches have been fortified

Both lines were in dire need of some upgraded ammunition and that is exactly what Michigan did. Lou Esposito and Grant Newsome have become Michigan's two most untouchable recruiters. With the success that they have enjoyed off the field, it will be difficult to fend off other schools and the NFL from trying to poach them away from Ann Arbor.

The combination of Nate Marshall and Carter Meadows will be likened to the duo of Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo. Offensively, the bookends are set till 2030 or so with Andrew Babalola, Ty Haywood, Malakai Lee, and Marky Walbridge. Michigan could afford to move a player inside to target another prospect or two if the Wolverines feel so inclined.

2. Sherrone Moore has collected more five-star commitments than Jim Harbaugh did in his first two cycles

It's not hyperbolic to say that Sherrone Moore has already passed Jim Harbaugh as a recruiter. Albeit Moore did inherit a better program because of Harbaugh, Moore is just keeping the torch lit that Harbaugh ignited.

As for Bryce Underwood, he's the biggest fish that Moore has reeled in and greater than any other quarterback recruit that Harbaugh ever had at Michigan. If Moore can snag Savion Hiter then he'll have outdone Harbaugh once again. Of course it won't mean anything unless Moore duplicates what his predecessor did in January 2024.

3. The staff can start prepping for the 2027 class

Signing day is still months away, but the maize and blue can turn some of their focus onto the 2027 class. There are some wide receivers in their own backyard that they must put up a fence for. Linebacker and safeties should also be a high priority, but the bell of the ball is quarterback Elijah Haven from Louisiana. Every program in the country is after his services.

Cornerback John Meredith of Texas is another five-star in the making that the Wolverines have to bring in for a visit. He holds offers from practically everyone as well. Luckily, there's plenty of time to get to know the next crop of high school phenoms.
