On Saturday, Michigan football fans will get their first live look at quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Of course, fans will need to be in the stadium to see Underwood play, although I have a feeling there will be plenty of highlights on social media, just like we have seen some spring practice highlights.
Underwood has looked impressive, but he's not the only thing Michigan football fans should be looking for. The spring game will be played Saturday at 12 p.m. EST. It will be broadcast on April 26th on the Big Ten Network.
For those watching this week or next, here are things to be looking out for.
Bryce Underwood's debut
The five-star quarterback has wowed everyone who has seen him this spring. It hasn't always been perfect. There have been some mistakes, but he's on track to be the starter.
It will be interesting to see how Underwood performs under the lights (so to speak) for the first time in college football.
Fans want to see Underwood show off his talent. Surely, he will. But fans shouldn't overreact if he throws an interception or doesn't put up huge numbers. The defense will be ahead of the offense, and spring games don't mean much in the grand scheme of things.
Offensive line improvement
We learned last offseason that coaches tend to be a little optimistic in their outlook for players. This spring was an important one for the offensive line, but Michigan football is still looking for help at offensive tackle.
Andrew Babalola, the No. 1 overall pick in the spring game draft, will make his debut. Fans should be nearly as excited about watching him play as Underwood. We'll see how many reps Babalola gets against top pass rushers, but it would be a great testing ground.
Either way, the spring game will be the first chance to see if the offensive line has actually improved from last season.
What about the wide receivers?
Michigan already added a punter from the spring transfer portal. The Wolverines are also looking at running backs, offensive tackles, and some wide receivers.
Donaven McCulley feels like the No. 1 wide receiver. Fred Moore, Andrew Marsh, Jamar Browder, Channing Goodwin, and I'Marion Stewart are all players to watch on Saturday.
A transfer portal addition seems likely, but it would still be good to see them make some plays for the quarterbacks during the spring game.
