Overreactions are normal for spring games. Saturday was no different in the Big House. Thankfully, there are still four months until the Michigan football season opens. For now let's focus on how the spring game was represented. Here are three takeaways from Saturday's public gathering of spring work.
1. The quarterback play was not convicting enough
Only two quarterbacks participated in Saturday's festivities. Both were unimpressive to the high standards of the rabid Michigan football fan base. Bryce Underwood got the first play whistled dead because of a sack by Rayshaun Benny, but ended with some trickery for six. He also lofted a bad interception to the defense, where no receiver was in sight.
Well, Bryce Underwood has a lot to work on, that’s for sure. Strong arm, can move around, but he’s not freshman Trevor Lawrence, not even close. As for Jadyn Davis—no hope. Terrible. Small, weak arm. Mikey Keene may still end up the starter. Michigan spring game. pic.twitter.com/P78BFtmRPS

Jadyn Davis was sacked a handful of times and threw two picks. If the season started tomorrow, he would not see the field. Michigan's quarterbacks are not at full strength, but let me emphasize this clearly, it's only April. The combination of Davis Warren, Alex Orji and Jack Tuttle won eight games in a rebuilding year. Sherrone Moore will figure it out, just not as fast as the negative Nancy's would like.
2. Jalen Hoffman and Bryson Kuzdal were the anomalies
Every year, a player or two that you didn't know were even on the roster makes a splash for themselves in the spring affair. This year it was Hoffman and Kuzdal. They combined to surpass 250 total yards, if you were keeping score at home. Hoffman and Underwood connected on the longest pass play that the offense has had since the national championship season. Kuzdal made a statement that he wants to be in the fall rotation.
3. The defense didn't show too much rust
Three interceptions, six sacks and a shutout for the maize side. Wink Martindale has his unit in midseason form. There will still be questions surrounding this group come August, but the drop off is far from realization.
