Comparisons between Michigan's football and basketball transfers are going to be held to a higher standard because of all the recent success that both programs have had.
Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham brought over three players from Utah who will contribute as much as Dusty May's transfers did, but can they produce the same success that the basketball team did so soon? That's a main reason why they joined coach Whittingham in Ann Arbor to replicate even more winning at Michigan.
3 transfers from Utah who could have a similar impact as the basketball transfers did
JJ Buchanan
Whether he's a receiver or a tight end, Buchanan is going to be a force for Bryce Underwood and Jason Beck. He will create open lanes for Andrew Marsh and the rest of the receiving core that Michigan hasn't had since the trio of Nico Collins, Donovan Peoples-Jones, and Tarik Black. His stats proved that he was the best freshman tight end in the country, and that's a recipe for more success at a place that uses its tight ends so expeditiously.
Smith Snowden
With the return of Jyaire Hill, Zeke Berry, Rod Moore and Snowden's arrival, Michigan should have one of the best secondaries in all of college this fall. His versatility might just remind some of Mikey Sainristil. In a way that's sort of like being the Elliot Cadeau of the defense.
John Henry Daley
He wasn't the No. 1 transfer player in the portal, but Henry Daley is the Yaxel Lendeborg of this group. He may be the single most important piece of Jay Hill's defense. In 2025, his PFF pass-rush grade was second only to David Bailey, one of the newest members of the New York Jets. That made him the highest-rated defensive end transfer in the nation, per the football evaluators.
