2028 Michigan commit Ryan Jung nails a monster field goal that shows why he is the top kicker

Michigan currently has only one commit in the Class of 2028, and that is three-star kicker Ryan Jung, but he is a key commitment for the Wolverines. Jung is the best kicker in his class and has a cannon for a leg, as shown in his latest workout video.

Jung recently posted a video of him drilling a 67-yard field goal out at his high school in Milton, Georgia. It looks like Jung's kick probably would have been good from as far back as 70 yards as well.

While this kick is extremely impressive, Michigan fans must remember one thing. Jung made this kick off a holder with no pressure in his face. Granted, that is how kickers have to get as much practice in, but can Jung make this kick in a deafening stadium after a snap, with huge linemen coming at him, trying to block it?

Maybe, but that won't be seen until he gets in a Michigan uniform in a couple of years. Jung has the chance, though, to join a line of Michigan kickers to go on and have successful careers in the NFL. The Wolverines kicker from last season, Dominic Zvada, who is currently with the New York Giants, has had a strong start to his rookie season, going perfect on field goals and extra points.

One of the best parts of Jung's video is that he made the kick so casually. Granted, it probably took him some time to hit that kick, but the distance was impressive, and it was nearly perfect through the uprights.

Jung is currently the only commit in the Class of 2028, but landing any players at the top of their position is great for Kyle Whittingham and Michigan.

Now, Whittingham does need to get to work on the Class of 2028 since Jung is the only commit so far. Michigan has hosted a number of recruits on game-day visits already this season, and we are only three games in. While Whittingham and his staff are still working on a few 2027 flip candidates, like five-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant, the 2028 class needs to become a top priority.

Michigan has started to trend toward a few in-state recruits, something Whittingham struggled to get in the Class of 2027. The Wolverines are a top destination for Michigan legacy Marquise Ray, whose father, Marcus Ray, won a National Championship with the Maize and Blue back in 1997. There is also Asa Burch, son of Alfie Burch, who played for Michigan in the early 1990s.

So while the 2028 recruiting class is light right now with only Jung, it looks like Whittingham could start landing some commitments as the season goes on, and definitely after the 2026 season.
