Bill Perigo is best known as a high school coach and a friend of John Wooden’s. That’s not good considering he coached the Michigan basketball program from 1952-60. In his eight years, Michigan was unremarkable, and the program had yet to achieve much up to that point.
During his tenure, Perigo led Michigan to a 78-100 record with a 38-78 record in conference play. His best season was 1958-59 when the team went 15-7, but he followed up that year with a 4-20 year before resigning as head coach in 1960. It was the first of two 20-loss seasons in Michigan history.
