These are three of the most absurd overreactions from Michigan’s 45th Big Ten championship in program history.

As unpretty as it was for Michigan football, they have accomplished a three-peat as the Big Ten champs for the first time since 1992. Their defense put a stranglehold on Iowa’s wretched offense and will return to the Rose Bowl for the first time since they went in back-to-back years 19 years ago to the day.

Here are three of the overreactions.

1. Iowa’s defense is a tad overrated

This is a sure-fire overreaction. In Iowa’s two biggest games of the season, they were outscored 57-0. That’s a deceptive notion. Their defense is not the problem. Phil Parker is one of the top coordinators in the country. Gus Johnson made a great point during the broadcast by saying that Lincoln Riley should have considered him for their previously vacant job.

They are a championship-caliber unit but don’t have any offense to help them out. They only gave up two red zone scores to Blake Corum because their offense turned the ball over. They stopped Michigan’s offense time and time again to keep them within striking distance. Michigan’s rush offense was basically non-existent besides Corum.

You can argue that Parker out-schemed Sherrone Moore after what he did to that Buckeye defense just a week ago. For Iowa, Kirk Ferentz is a highly respected coach because he knows how to keep Iowa relevant. If he can find an offensive coordinator and retain Parker, then Iowa will be back in this same spot in 2024.
