The special teams are special

Iowa usually dominates the kicking game. Yet, on Saturday, that wasn’t the case. An 84-yard punt return by Semaj Morgan in the second quarter changed the game.

It allowed Michigan to grab a 10-0 lead which would prove to be insurmountable. It was the first time Morgan had returned a punt and it certainly should lead to more opportunities.

Whether it’s been as a runner or receiver, Morgan has been special with the ball in his hands, and kudos to Jay Harbaugh for giving him a shot.

Harbaugh deserves credit for more than that though. James Turner continues to be as money as Jake Moody went a perfect 7-for-7 against Ohio State and in the Big Ten championship game with a pair of 50-yard makes.

The coverage units were great and anytime you can escape a game without Iowa blocking a kick, it’s a good day. It was also another reminder that Michigan is elite in all three phases, which is just another reason this team is now favored to win the national title.
