Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy celebrates the 30-24 win over Ohio State with an interview on the field with Fox Sports’ Jenny Taft at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023. /

J.J. McCarthy is a Michigan legend

The numbers aren’t necessarily eye-popping, but Michigan football wouldn’t have won ‘The Game’ without the elite quarterback play of J.J. McCarthy.

McCarthy’s touchdown pass to Roman Wilson was a thing of beauty and there’s maybe only a handful of quarterbacks in the NFL who could make that throw.

Outside of the rushing yards, the difference in the game was McCarthy. He completed 16-of-20 for 148 yards and a touchdown. He also ran four times for 17 yards, yet his impact was bigger than that.

McCarthy didn’t have any turnovers and will likely finish his career with a 3-0 record against the Buckeyes, and remember, he had a clutch second-half completion to Roman Wilson in 2021.

Jim Harbaugh said he’s the best quarterback in Michigan history and he’s got a chance to prove it.
