3 takeaways from Michigan basketball’s win over Stanford

3. Going 2-1 through Atlantis will be beneficial for the remainder of the season
The Battle 4 Atlantis wasn’t as loaded as a field like the Maui Invitational was. However, any time you can gain a winning record in a preseason tournament is promising. The Stanford win won’t be considered a quad-one resume builder, but Texas Tech could be. Not having to play Northern Iowa is a relief to the schedule as well.
The Long Beach State loss will linger all year unless Michigan wins games like their next two contests. Texas Tech lost their only power five matchups so far in 2023, while Michigan is already battle-tested at 2-1 against St. John’s, Memphis, and Stanford. Winning on a neutral or road court, as they can accomplish with Tech and Oregon, will pay dividends in March.
The Wolverines will get a week-long break following Friday’s fifth-place game in the Bahamas. CBS Sports predicted the Red Raiders to land eighth in their preseason prognostications under new coach Grant McCasland, who took over from North Texas. There are staunch differences between the two in both how the offenses and defenses exist.
