Michigan Wolverines news: John Harbaugh defends his brother, CFP Rankings update, and more
John Harbaugh defended Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh, his brother, plus more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.
The brother of Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh, John Harbaugh, the long-time head coach of the Baltimore Ravens was asked about the NCAA investigation and his brother’s suspension.
As you’d expect, John fully defended his brother. He defended the family name and basically scoffed at the notion that his brother is a liar — which is what the Big Ten and others are saying.
Harbaugh says he had no knowledge of Connor Stalions’ activities, which may or may not have broken NCAA rules against in-person scouting. We don’t know because there hasn’t been a full investigation at this point.
However, John Harbaugh did reveal something interesting about the investigation — that the Michigan Wolverines head coach has had his computers and cell phones searched by the NCAA.
It sounds like a man with nothing to hide. Jim Harbaugh wants due process and Michigan football deserves it or no one else in the Big Ten should ever get it again.
And compared to most major college football programs — including Ohio State and the SEC — I believe Michigan football has much less to fear from a full NCAA investigation.
Michigan football ranked third in CFP Rankings
Honestly, I have zero interest in the College Football Playoff rankings. We all know the scenario for Michigan football: win and in.
That’s all there is. Michigan, ranked third again, isn’t making the field as a one-loss team unless there is an insane amount of carnage over the next few weeks. The same can be said for Ohio State.
Heck, you can make the case that if Georgia doesn’t win out, it won’t be in the playoffs. There isn’t much chaos this season and while there could be over the next three weeks, it feels like the Big Ten, ACC, SEC, and Pac-12 champions will be advancing.
So like I said, for Michigan football, it’s win and in.
Michigan Wolverines women’s basketball cruises to a win
The Michigan women’s basketball team improved to 2-0 on Tuesday night with a dominant 80-39 win over Oakland. Cameron Williams finished with a double-double for the Michigan Wolverines and finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Lalia Phelia pitched in with 10 points for Michigan women’s basketball, while Lauren Hansen, one of the transfers added in the offseason by Kim Barnes Arico, delivered seven points and eight assists.
Michigan will be back in action against Middle Tennessee State on Saturday in the first round of the women’s Battle 4 Atlantis. Tip-off is set for 5 PM CST.
