Grades, game balls for Michigan football against Penn State
Coaching: A+
In his second game as an interim head coach, Sherrone Moore outcoached James Franklin. When Franklin went for two and didn’t get it at the end of the first half, it put Michigan in control of the game, especially after the field goal.
Moore knew he had a winning hand and he played it. The offensive line smashed their way to victory and the defense put up a wall.
The margin was closer than in 2022, but the outcome was essentially the same. Michigan stonewalled Penn State in the second half and ran the ball down their throat until they surrendered.
Moore also provided great leadership and if anyone doesn’t want this guy to be their head coach, I’m sure Michigan football would love to hang onto him until Jim Harbaugh retires to take over.
Special teams: A
Tommy Doman did a great job of flipping the field with his punts when needed. He made sure that Penn State had a long field to work. Penn State also had just five return yards — none on kickoffs and one punt return for five yards.
James Turner also made his only field goal attempt. There weren’t any big plays but Michigan football executed to a tee in the kicking game.
