Michigan Wolverines news: J.J. McCarthy is Heisman betting favorite, plus MSU’s Hitler embarassment
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy is the new Heisman favorite, plus another embarrassment for Michigan State.
J.J. McCarthy made his strongest argument yet to be a Heisman Trophy contender on Saturday night against Michigan State, as the Michigan football quarterback torched the Spartans for 276 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.
McCarthy wound up throwing four touchdowns against the Spartans. He now has 18 for the season as well as three rushing touchdowns and just three interceptions, which all came in the same game.
In seven of eight games, McCarthy doesn’t have a turnover. He also has barely played in the fourth quarter, even in Big Ten play this season.
After his stellar showing, the Michigan football standout saw his Heisman odds take a big jump and according to FanDuel, McCarthy has the best odds to win the Heisman Trophy at +200.
McCarthy will have to continue this stellar level of play. He will also need to have some big moments against Penn State and Ohio State. But the table is set for an exciting last month of the season for J.J. McCarthy.
More pictures of Hitler than points for Michigan State.
As if Michigan State didn’t have enough to be embarrassed about thanks to the miserable play of its football team, the Spartans took it a step further on Saturday night, showing a photo of Adolf Hitler on their scoreboard.
The picture was shown as part of a trivia question, but still, it’s hard to defend the use of that image under any circumstances, especially with what’s going on right now in the world.
It also creates the terrible talking point the Spartans showed Hitler on their scoreboard more than they put points up Saturday night in Spartan Stadium, which is just sad, even for Little Brother.
Michigan State University did issue an apology, but man, that’s a bad look.
Michigan Wolverines hold firm at No. 2
The Michigan Wolverines are still ranked No. 2 in both the AP and Coaches Poll this week. Michigan football got 19 first-place votes this week in the AP poll but Georgia is still No. 1 and should be until someone beats them.
It’s still fun to see the Wolverines climb the polls. They are also the odds-on favorite according to some bookmakers to win the national title.
