Accolades are rolling for Michigan football’s J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy was dominant for Michigan football in the win for the Wolverines over Michigan State and the accolades are rolling in.
It was a memorable performance by Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy on Saturday night against Michigan State.
McCarthy was wearing a shirt after the game that he said he hadn’t worn since the loss to Michigan State in 2021. McCarthy and Blake Corum fumbled a snap and it contributed to the Wolverines losing a 16-point lead in the second half.
McCarthy was out for redemption and he got it against the Spartans with an incredible performance. J.J. threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. He did it by alluding pass rushers and making incredible throws down the field, including twice on touchdowns to Colston Loveland.
McCarthy added a fourth touchdown pass in the second half. He’s got 18 total this season and has three rushing touchdowns. He’s also played just a few snaps in the fourth quarter this season.
When the game was over, McCarthy had completed 21-of-27 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns in the 49-0 win over Sparty.
Accolades rolling in for McCarthy
Not only has McCarthy surged in the Heisman Trophy race, but J.J. was also named the Big Ten (Co) Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week.
McCarthy was also on the Davey O’Brien Great List for Week 8, as well as being named one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week.
At the very least, McCarthy is on his way to earning First-Team All-Big Ten honors. He’s completing 78.1 percent of his passes. He’s also averaging 10.6 yards per attempt.
McCarthy has been dominant in Big Ten play this season with 11 touchdown passes and three touchdown runs in five games total without an interception. He also leads college football in QBR according to ESPN and in my book, he’s college football’s best player.
