Michigan Football: 3 overreactions from the Michigan State win
By Nick Popio
3. Michigan State hiring Urban Meyer would be the downfall of Michigan’s dominance
Nine years ago Michigan football was in the same place that the the Spartans are currently in today. They hoped for a big name and got him. Michigan State is in the same boat, but they might not get what they are dreaming of.
Urban Meyer would be a grand slam hire in East Lansing, without question. Meyer has already debunked the rumors about getting back into coaching though.
Meyer would change this matchup from day one. Everyone knows how elite of a coach he is. He’s owned Jim Harbaugh and is probably the only guy who can get Michigan State back in the championship chase. It just doesn’t seem plausible because he would be in a state he hates and coaching against his dream job that he once was in charge of. That makes this an overreaction.
Bruce Feldman reported he is not interested in the job, but that doesn’t mean he can change his mind if Michigan State is willing to make him the highest-paid coach in the NCAA.
It would make the rivalry undeniably worthwhile again and the Big Ten even more difficult than it is going to become in 2024.
