4. Donovan strikes a big play

With Corum back, Donovan Edwards has shifted to more of a backup role and so far, he’s sort of struggled. He’s got 51 attempts through six games for 177 yards. The most striking thing is that he’s only got one explosive play so far — a 33-yard reception.

The longest run by Edwards so far this season has been 11 yards, which is just shocking after the way we saw him run against Ohio State, Purdue, and TCU. Edwards had four 60-plus yard runs in the span of three games.

He does seem to be pressing a bit. I’m not worried though. Kalel Mullings’ emergence is a good thing but it’s not going to knock Edwards out of the lineup. Edwards is a mismatch anytime he’s on a passing route and the explosive runs will come.

I have a feeling that we’ll see one this week. Indiana isn’t great against the run and it feels like a chance to get Edwards some extra carries and some confidence. Throw him a few passes too.

If this offense wants to reach maximum output, Donovan Edwards has to get going.
