It was another impressive performance for Michigan football and here are five things we learned in the Wolverines win.

Michigan football is certainly passing the eye test in terms of being a national title contender and the 42-point win over Minnesota was dazzling.

Michigan’s domination started from the first drive when Will Johnson intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. The domination never really ceased.

The defense did allow a touchdown on the final drive of the first half, which wasn’t great, but that was more of a fluke than anything.

Michigan football had 432 yards including 191 on the ground. Minnesota had just 169 total yards and just 52 in the air. J.J. McCarthy was on the bench in the fourth quarter again and here are five things we learned from the Wolverines win.

J.J. McCarthy is elite

Jim Harbaugh said McCarthy is the best quarterback in college football and he’s not alone in that assessment. If you go by ESPN’s QBR rating, McCarthy is also No. 1.

J.J. doesn’t have the gaudy numbers of Caleb Williams or Michael Penix. That’s not just the way that Michigan plays. However, he’s got 11 touchdown passes, three rushing touchdowns, and just three turnovers all of which came in one poor game against Bowling Green.

McCarthy hasn’t had a turnover in five of six games. He’s also accounted for multiple touchdowns in every Big Ten game so far this season. That’s in addition to completing 77.6 percent of his passes.

McCarthy just feels like he’s in complete control and he’s throwing the ball like it’s on a string. It’s been fun to watch and for my memory, I’ve never seen a Michigan footbal quarterback play better.
