The advantage at quarterback

I’d say the No. 1 reason the Michigan Wolverines are going to win this game on Saturday night is the difference at the quarterback position.

Michigan football has a massive advantage there against just about every team, which is what makes the Wolverines so dangerous. They have an elite offensive line, they are elite on defense, and Michigan also has one of the best quarterbacks in college football.

J.J. McCarthy had one off night against Bowling Green but that was clearly an anomaly. McCarthy has had a QBR of better than 90 in four of the five games this season. Minnesota is great at getting interceptions — they have eight so far this season.

That’s one thing to watch and McCarthy taking care of the ball is one of my keys to the game. But Minnesota doesn’t have a great pass rush and Michigan is constantly in good spots in terms of down and distance.

McCarthy had just five interceptions all last season. He’s stellar at taking care of the ball and he’s elite. Minnesota’s QB isn’t. Plus, the Michigan defense has a way of making good quarterbacks look bad — just ask C.J. Stroud.
