In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football is ranked second in both polls after Week 1, plus bowl projections and more.

It was a solid start to the season for Michigan football and following the Wolverines’ 30-3 win over East Carolina, they held firm at No. 2 in the AP and Coaches polls.

There was a little shakeup in the AP poll as Florida State moved up after its impressive win over LSU and Ohio State moved down. The Buckeyes dropped two spots down to No. 5 after their win over Indiana.

Florida State jumped up four spots in the AP poll. Alabama climbed up one spot to No. 4. Penn State has also stayed the same at No. 7 following its win over West Virginia. Wisconsin is the only other Big Ten team in the AP poll at No. 19.

The Michigan Wolverines were also projected to make the College Football Playoff after Week 1. A projection from ESPN also has Michigan football making the national championship game against Georgia.

Obviously, the Michigan Wolverines just need to focus on winning each week. All of that other stuff doesn’t matter. Michigan football’s No. 1 goal is to beat its rival and win the Big Ten championship once again.

Do that and the rest will take care of itself.

Michigan football ‘has no weaknesses’, no worries about run game

According to UNLV head coach Barry Odom, Michigan football doesn’t have any weaknesses, at least not any that he’s seen ahead of Saturday’s’ non-conference matchup in the Big House.

“If they’ve got a weakness, I haven’t found it yet,” Odom said Monday. “They’re really solid and a great team.”

The Rebels are a 36-point underdog according to the latest odds. Still, Michigan football doesn’t want to get complacent and has some real things to work on after last week, especially running the ball, although Donovan Edwards isn’t worried about it.

"“ECU had a really great game plan for stopping the run,” Edwards said on Tuesday night. “8, 9, 10 people in the box. They were stopping a run, but it was great being in the Big House again. All the fantastic fans cheering us on. I’m very happy with how we played overall as a team, they stopped the run and that opened up the passing game. J.J. had a great game. Roman [Wilson] had a fantastic game."

ECU was determined to slow down Michigan’s running game and it worked. The Pirates also threw the ball quickly to avoid the pass rush, but I wouldn’t be concerned about the pass or the running game after one week of the season.
