Michigan football will look to improve to 2-0 this weekend against UNLV and here’s a look at the odds, how to watch, and a prediction.

The Michigan football certainly wasn’t flawless in the Week 1 win over East Carolina, but it was a solid 27-point victory all the same.

It should be noted that Michigan football didn’t cover the spread, which was 36 points. However, it was pretty close. East Carolina made a field goal on the final play of the game. Michigan also squandered a goal-line opportunity at the end of the third quarter.

Still, it wasn’t a bad showing without head coach Jim Harbaugh. J.J. McCarthy went off and while fans have questions about the running game and pass rush, the head coach didn’t sound too concerned about either.

UNLV is 1-0 after a blowout win over FCS opponent Bryant last week. The Rebels scored 44 points in the first game under new head coach Barry Odom, who took the job after being the defensive coordinator for Arkansas. He was also previously a head coach at Missouri.

East Carolina was fresh off an 8-5 season, while UNLV is still trying to build a program and has started over again. That’s not going to be easy facing Michigan football in Game Two and here’s a look at the odds, how to watch, and a prediction for Michigan vs. UNLV in Week 2.

Michigan vs. UNLV odds

For the second straight week, the Wolverines are a 36-point favorite, at least according to DraftKings and the odds as of right now. The over/under is 57.5 points and just like last week, there is no money-line bet being offered.

Michigan vs. UNLV players to watch

Michigan

This week, I’ll be watching the Michigan football offensive line, as well as the running backs. Michigan made the right call throwing last week and the Wolverines will probably be airing it out again this week, but U-M won’t average 3.9 yards per rushing attempt again.

The front five, which will probably still rotate some guys, will be determined to open up some lanes in the running game, plus Blake Corum or Donovan Edwards will reach 100 yards.

UNLV

If the Rebels are going to have any hope of pulling the upset or even covering the spread, quarterback Doug Brumfield will have to be stellar. He was 4-1 as a starter last season but completed 11-of-18 passes for 86 yards and one interception in Week 1.

Brumfield will have to connect with all-conference wideout Ricky White who had 52 receptions for 622 yards last season but caught just two passes for five yards against Bryant.

Michigan vs. UNLV prediction

The second half of last week was a little boring and this week will probably be the same. I do think we’ll see Michigan football determined to run it more, just to prove they can.

Not saying the coaches are going to do that, but when the run plays are called, I expect them to be more successful, especially since the Rebels allowed 4.5 yards per attempt to Bryant. UNLV was actually outgained last week and Bryant went over 400 total yards.

That doesn’t bode well for the Rebels. Neither will the fact that Michigan should be healthier this week. I know the Wolverines want to be careful, but guys need to play.

Even if Will Johnson, Rod Moore, Tyler Morris, and others don’t play, Michigan football should win this game with ease and I don’t see the Rebels scoring more than 10 points. The offense will also execute better in the red zone.
