Michigan football finally returns on Saturday against East Carolina and here are five predictions for the Wolverines.

It’s been way too long since we have gotten to watch Michigan football and that drought will come to an end on Saturday as the 2023 season will finally get underway.

Basically, we have been waiting for eight months for the opener against East Carolina, which hopefully is the jumping-off point for a historic season.

The goal is to win a national championship and that means that games like this are a must. You can’t afford slip-ups and it’s worth mentioning that Jim Harbaugh won’t be coaching.

Jesse Minter will be the interim head coach. Michigan football will also be without offense coordinator Sherrone Moore.

Yet, the Wolverines will be motivated. They also have a team of tremendous leaders. With all that in mind, here are five bold predictions for the Maize Out against ECU on Saturday.

J.J. McCarthy goes off

I believe that McCarthy is going to take a big leap this season. The game will start to slow down for him and the arm talent will show itself even more this season.

Colston Loveland is going to be elite. However, there might not be another true No. 1 wideout on the team, even though Roman Wilson is now wearing No. 1.

Kirk Campbell is calling the plays this week since Moore is suspended. East Carolina also ranked 128th overall in pass defense last season. The Pirates have tried to address some things via the transfer portal but I don’t see them containing McCarthy and the Wolverines passing attack.

J.J. tosses three touchdowns and goes for around 250 total yards.
