Michigan football will take on East Carolina in College Football Week 1 and here’s a look at the odds, as well as a prediction and more. 

The wait for the Michigan football season is nearly over as the Wolverines will take the field for their Maize Out on Saturday against East Carolina.

Michigan football won’t have its head coach, Jim Harbaugh, against the Pirates, who were 8-5 last season. The Wolverines also won’t have their offensive coordinator for the East Carolina game as Sherrone Moore has also taken a self-imposed one-game suspension.

The Wolverines might be without a couple of starters too due to injury. Yet, Michigan is still a heavy favorite, and here’s a look at the odds for Michigan vs. East Carolina in College Football Week 1 as well as the over/under and other key info.

According to the latest odds via DraftKings, Michigan football is a 36-point favorite against East Carolina. The over/under between the two teams is 51.5 and the money line hasn’t been determined at this point.

Michigan. vs East Carolina players to watch

We break down some of the key players to watch for both teams ahead of Saturday’s season opener in the Big House.

Michigan

J.J. McCarthy is the guy I’m watching for Michigan football. The Pirates’ pass defense struggled last season and had to replace most of their secondary anyway. Michigan’s offensive line should do work, but McCarthy could really shine and will need to if the Wolverines are going to cover.

I’m also watching the entire offensive line. Michigan should be moving some guys around as competitions for starting jobs continue. If U-M controls the line of scrimmages on both sides, it will win the game with ease.

East Carolina

Mason Garcia is a former four-star quarterback who will get the start for East Carolina. The Pirates lost their long-time starting quarterback but Garcia is 6-foot-5 and he can throw the football. Michigan could be without two starting safeties, so the pass defense could be tested and if the Pirates are going to have any prayer of an upset, Garica needs the game of his life.

Michigan vs. East Carolina prediction against the spread

I wouldn’t want to be East Carolina this week. Michigan football is going to be motivated for this matchup and the Wolverines will want to prove a point without head coach Jim Harbaugh. McCarthy has a big day and both running backs will score multiple touchdowns.
