Defense

Five-star sophomore defensive end Mykel Williams is getting a boatload of hype to open the year. He’s next in line as Georgia’s most prominent defensive lineman.

Michigan football doesn’t have a player like that on the edge. Jalon Walker, Daylen Everette, and Malaki Starks were also five-star recruits in 2022 who will have their chances to start on this defense that is bursting with unlimited promise.

Smael Mondon is back at linebacker and is similar to Junior Colson. Raylen Wilson is a name that Michigan football fans should know well. He was committed to the Wolverines before decommitting a year ago and enrolling at Georgia. He’ll see the field early and would have been the crown jewel of Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class. Thanks to a transfer and the emergence of others Michigan’s second-level defenders room is deep though.

At corner, Everette could be a lockdown, but Will Johnson is in the same territory. Joenel Aguero is a prime-time safety prospect. He’s another freshman who should get on the gridiron early and often for Kirby Smart.

Nonetheless, pro football focus ranks Georgia ahead of the Wolverines in every category coming into 2023, thus giving the checkmark to the Bulldogs on defense is acceptable.
