The college football season will begin for the Michigan Wolverines on September 2, 2023. East Carolina will travel to Ann Arbor and this match-up will display how the team will function with or without, head coach Jim Harbaugh on the sidelines.

For Michigan football to repeat as Big Ten Champions, it will need various players to step up to the challenge while performing consistently at a high level each week.

I will highlight some individuals that can produce plays and make an even bigger impact in this upcoming season for Michigan football.

Will Johnson/CB

Will Johnson arrived in Ann Arbor as a highly touted five-star recruit during the 2022 season. He ranked 23rd on the ESPN Top 100. Many writers across the nation placed high expectations upon the shoulders of this true freshman.

Johnson came in last season and delivered an outstanding performance. His work ethic changed his trajectory from being a rotational player to solidifying a starting role. His production earned him more playing time as the season progressed. His perseverance led to him starting five games for the Wolverines in 2022.

Johnson closed the season by making tremendous plays in pressure moments. All fans know and understand the Ohio State versus Michigan game is the biggest rivalry for both programs. In that contest, Johnson garnered eight tackles while Michigan football defeated the Buckeyes 45-23.

In the Big Ten Championship versus Purdue, he tallied two interceptions creating momentum for Michigan football on both occasions. He was showcasing his abilities on a national stage where Michigan received the 2022 Big Ten Title.

The arrow is pointing up for Mr. Johnson heading into the 2023 season. His productivity should increase this season; Johnson’s output will allow the secondary to become a stout unit on defense.

Rod Moore/DB

Rod Moore is a player who can do everything, like a jack of all trades. He is smart enough not to bite on the double move from the offensive players and can cover multiple positions.

Moore led all Michigan football defenders capturing four interceptions. The way he diagnoses plays while displaying great instincts; allows him to be in the right place on the field to disrupt the opposing offense.

From his freshman campaign to this upcoming season, his growth as a player has captivated this team. His leadership skills are impactful upon the culture of the Maize and Blue.

Watching a player that doesn’t take a down off and always gives 100% throughout each quarter; shows that he ignites his team on and off the field. His talents can create more turnovers and cause chaos for the Wolverine’s defense this fall.

Roman Wilson/WR

Roman Wilson will enter his senior season looking to create more opportunities within this offense. During the 2022 season, Wilson scored four receiving touchdowns and added another two touchdowns rushing.

This veteran can play the slot position or line up on the outside. He can beat press coverage or find open holes in the zone defense. His speed and route-running abilities make him dangerous after the catch. He is a weapon that can score from anywhere on the field. With his experience and savvy technique, Roman Wilson could potentially lead all wide receivers in touchdowns this year.
