Linebacker, Ernest Hausmann

Michigan football was much more active in the transfer portal this offseason and the Wolverines actually landed one of the top overall players in former Nebraska linebacker Ernest Hausmann.

Hausmann was a former three-star recruit in the 2022 class. He didn’t start at the beginning of the season for Nebraska, but once he got his opportunity, it was clear that he belonged.

Hausmann even had a stellar performance against the Wolverines in a 34-3 Michigan win over Nebraska last November. Ernest had 10 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a sack. He followed that up with 12 tackles against Wisconsin, as well as six tackles and a fumble recovery against Iowa.

Michigan football was fortunate to land Hausmann in the transfer portal and while he might not even be a full-time starter, he’s going to be a star.

Junior Colson and Michael Barrett were both named to the Butkus Award Watch List this week and they are expected to start, but Hausmann is a three-down backer who can really run and cover.

Hausmann is going to have a big role this season and by the end of 2023, he’ll prove to be one of the best players on this Michigan defense, which should be even better than it was in 2022.
