Michigan football could be landing a 2024 cornerback commitment on Thursday, plus more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

When the Michigan football team missed out on cornerbacks Aaron Scott, Bryce West, and others, it sent the Michigan Wolverines scrambling a little bit in the 2024 class.

I said at the time that Michigan football fans needed to trust Steve Clinkscale. Soon enough, there was some positive momentum as the Michigan Wolverines were able to flip a three-star cornerback from Purdue, Jo’Ziah Edmond, who is ranked No. 721 overall in the 2024 class via the 247 Sports composite rankings.

There’s a lot to like about Edmond. He was one of the guys that Michigan football zeroed in on quickly after Scott’s commitment to the Buckeyes. Another is three-star cornerback Jeremiah Lowe out of Kentucky.

Lowe is 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, and ranked 1,089 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2024 class. The offer list isn’t huge. Boston College, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Missouri are the other Power-5 offers. Some MAC teams have offered as well.

However, Michigan football obviously likes what it sees. Clink is a great evaluator of talent.  He also knows the Kentucky area, so he’s probably got some inside info too.

Either way, Lowe is expected to announce his commitment on Thursday at 3:00 PM EST. Kentucky is making a late push to keep Lowe in the state according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine, which probably has something to do with U-M making him a priority but we’ll see what happens.

The Michigan Wolverines own both crystal ball projections right now and the On3 prediction machine gives Michigan football a 99-percent chance to win his commitment.

Michigan football puts the pads on

The Michigan Wolverines have been going through fall camp for the past week, but put the pads on Wednesday for the first time during fall camp.

Michigan football released a short highlight video, which is about the only access fans or media are allowed in terms of practice.

Here’s the video and one play that certainly caught my eye was Michigan football freshman Semaj Morgan catching a touchdown pass over Mike Sainristil.

I’ve said that Morgan is the freshman wideout that has the best chance to be a contributor this year and so far, he appears to be having a really solid fall camp.

Michigan football running backs named to Doak Walker Award watch list

It’s a no-brainer since they are two of the best running backs in all of college football, but Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards both made the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list.

The award goes to the best running back in college football. That was definitely Corum last season and he would have easily won the award, which went to Bijan Robinson if he was able to play against Ohio State and Purdue in the Big Ten title game.

Edwards shouldn’t be overlooked. It sounds like he’s ready to dominate as a running back and receiver and I fully expect Edwards in the passing game to be a big part of Michigan’s offense. He’s right in the sense that linebackers and safeties can’t cover him.

So either defenses are going to have to double-team him, put a slot corner on him, or just live with getting beat all day.

Projected Michigan football depth chart for 2023. dark. Next

Either way, Michigan football has the best running back tandem in college football and that’s not even debatable heading into the 2023 season.
