Michigan Wolverines news: Two new commitments, plus transfer target commits to Ohio State
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football lands two new commitments on Tuesday, plus a transfer is trending to OSU.
It was a disappointing weekend on the recruiting trail for the Michigan Wolverines, but Michigan football has quickly regained momentum with two new commitments — one each in the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes.
Let’s start with the newest 2024 commitment Jo’Ziah Edmond. The three-star recruit ranked No. 723 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings was committed to Purdue until Tuesday morning when he announced his decommitment.
By Tuesday evening, Edmond was a Michigan football commitment and the cornerback pledge didn’t come a moment too soon for the Michigan Wolverines, who didn’t have any cornerback commitments yet in 2024.
Edmond is 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, and has seven interceptions in two high school seasons. He’s a really good athlete and has even played some quarterback.
You have to give all the credit to Steve Clinkscale. He did a spectacular job of managing the board and clearly had options if Scott went to Ohio State, which he did.
Michigan Wolverines land key in-state commitment
Anytime the Michigan football program can land a top-5 player in the state of Michigan, it’s a win and the Wolverines did just that on Tuesday with the commitment of defensive lineman Bobby Kanka.
Kanka is ranked No. 315 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings in the 2025 class. He’s ranked fourth in the state of Michigan and the 6-foot-4, 255-pounder is a dude that’s likely to play on the interior for Mike Elston.
The Michigan Wolverines were smart to prioritize Kanka, who may not be a five-star prospect but is going to be a really good football player down the road.
Nigel Glover commits to Ohio State
The former Northwestern signee, Nigel Glover, a four-star linebacker from the state of Ohio in the 2023 class, visited Michigan football over the weekend.
Glover was one of the players to hit the transfer portal after Pat Fitzgerald was fired. However, he also visited Ohio State prior to visiting the Michigan Wolverines.
It seemed like Michigan football was in a good spot, but, the Buckeyes were able to land his commitment after picking up some expert projections on Tuesday and the linebacker/safety will play for the Buckeyes in 2023, instead of the Wolverines.
