Michigan football cornerback Will Johnson offers injury update
One of the Wolverines’ most valuable players, Will Johnson, updated his injury status ahead of the 2023 Michigan football season.
There’s no debate about the importance of cornerback Will Johnson to the 2023 Michigan football season. Truth be told, he might be the Wolverines’ best player regardless of position.
When he chose to wear No. 2, you could see the uncanny resemblance between Johnson and former Michigan football great Charles Woodson.
Johnson plays a lot like Woodson too. He’s not afraid to deliver a big hit and with his two interceptions in the Big Ten championship game, as well as his spectacular coverage of Marvin Harrison Jr. in the Ohio State game, he proved he can deliver on the big stage like Woodson too.
Michigan football is lucky that Johnson isn’t draft eligible after this upcoming season because he might be the best cornerback in the 2024 NFL draft, let alone in 2025 when he’ll actually be eligible to be drafted by an NFL team.
Will Johnson injury update
While last season saw even Johnson exceed expectations as a former five-star recruit, the 6-foot-2 cornerback had to have his knee scoped this offseason. But he said he’s close to 100 percent in an interview published on Saturday by Maize and Brew:
"“My goal is to be game one, be 100 percent and feel like I can lock down any receiver, so I just got to get back to that feeling and get there as soon as I can,” Johnson said."
Hopefully, Johnson is 100 percent healthy by the East Carolina game, although my hope is that he’s able to participate in a good chunk of fall camp.
Josh Wallace, Jyaire Hill, Amorion Walker, and Ja’Den McBurrows could all fill in if Johnson isn’t 100 percent ready to go for the season opener. However, it sounds like it won’t take long for Johnson to be completely healthy, which is good news with the Michigan football season fast approaching.
