Michigan Wolverines news: More praise for J.J. McCarthy, a healthy Michigan football team, and more
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football is healthy, J.J. McCarthy gets praised by Phil Steele and more.
Michigan football fans are crazy excited about the 2023 season and for good reason. The offense is loaded and led by former five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
The fact that the Michigan Wolverines don’t have to worry about who the starting quarterback will be is kind of an underrated storyline.
I haven’t been shy about the kind of season that I think McCarthy is going to have, but Phil Steele, the well-known college football analyst also has a really high view of McCarthy going into 2023 according to this interview with Clayton Sayfie of The Wolverine. Here’s one quote that should interest Michigan football fans:
"“He’s a guy that looked great in the spring. He’s got a great confidence. When you look at McCarthy, I’m expecting big things from him. I think he’s going to be a Heisman contender at the end of the year.”"
We are going to see a better McCarthy in 2023 and that’s a good thing for the Michigan Wolverines and a bad thing for everyone else.
Michigan football team is healthy
Being healthy is always important for a football team. We learned that last season when Michigan football got struck with the injury bug late in the year.
Even last season, there were some guys, such as J.J. McCarthy dealing with some things at the start of camp. McCarthy was coming off an off-season procedure, just like Blake Corum is.
Corum is expected to be 100 percent by fall camp. We’ll see. But as long as he’s close to 100 percent by the start of the season, that’s what matters.
Outside of that, Michigan football is relatively healthy as Chris Balas of The Wolverine reported in his latest article for The Wolverine.
Michigan Wolverines offer Tarris Reed’s younger brother
Michigan basketball made the cut list for a pair of five-star recruits earlier this week and there was more recruiting news on Wednesday as Juwan Howard extended an offer to Tristan Reed, the younger brother of Tarris Reed Jr.
The 6-foot-8 center is part of the 2026 class. He’s not ranked yet according to the 247 Sports composite rankings but could be an interesting recruitment to follow.
