One of the top targets for Michigan football in the 2024 class, Gatlin Bair, has set a commitment date.

Gatlin Bair, ranked as the #35 player in the nation, has announced that he will be making his commitment on August 5th, at 5 p.m. Mountain Time.

This is one recruitment that Michigan football fans should be cautiously optimistic about.

Bair is a guy that’s been talked about a lot over the past month for Michigan. He made his first visit to Ann Arbor, and the Wolverines blew him away. The visit was so good, that the ON3 prediction machine gave Michigan football a 71.9% chance of winning his recruitment.

The speedy wide receiver will take a two-year mission trip following his graduation, but he is nonetheless one of the most talented players in America.

Where Michigan football stands with the elite wideout

As it stands now, Michigan football is likely the leader. Bair will, however, take a multi-day visit to Boise State prior to committing.

They’re the hometown team for the Idaho native, and they’ll be preaching the idea of being a hometown hero. While I do believe that Michigan will hold on to its lead, you can’t count out Boise.

The fact that Bair is announcing a commitment date now makes me more optimistic. If he was torn or thought that he would be torn, he probably wouldn’t create all this buzz about his commitment. With that being said, if Bair ends up pushing back his commitment it’ll be a bad sign for Michigan football.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Gatlin Bair as a player, he’s a speedster who can run by just about anybody – literally. Bair ran a 10.15-second 100-meter dash back in May, which was good enough for the second-fastest time in the country. And he was only a junior in high school.

Athletically, Bair is a beast. Thinking about what Ben Herbert could do with him is very exciting. Michigan football has been in need of elite talent at the wide receiver position, and Bair could provide just that.

While many people will look towards his two-year mission trip as a negative thing for Michigan, it actually could play out as a very positive thing in the recruiting world. Think about it, Michigan can tell offensive recruits that they *technically* have a borderline five-star receiver already committed. That’ll be a boost when it comes to recruiting offensive talent.

With just over two weeks until his commitment, Michigan has to like where it is. This is definitely one to keep an eye on with a Boise State visit looming, but Bair would be a massive addition to this class. Go Blue!
