We have a Maize out for the upcoming Michigan football season, a new transfer target for Michigan basketball, and more in our Michigan Wolverines roundup.

The 2023 Michigan football season is less than 50 days away and we also know now which one of the games that will be a Maize Out.

East Carolina is coming to square off against the Michigan Wolverines in the season opener, the Pirates will face an all-Maize crowd, as well as the Michigan football team on Sept. 2nd.

I’m hoping this won’t be the only Maize-out game for Michigan football for several reasons. One, it seems more fun when it’s a night game to do something like this. Also, I would rather the crowd be fired up for a conference opponent.

East Carolina isn’t going to be a cakewalk. The Pirates won nine games last season and a bowl game. However, the crowd will be amped already for the first Michigan football game of the 2023 season, so the selection is a little weird to me.

Michigan Wolverines targeting a new transfer

Michigan basketball is looking to add another piece or two to the final roster for the 2023-24 season. Jose Perez, the guard who entered the portal from West Virginia is one option.

Perez is taking an official visit at the end of July and there is plenty of optimism on the Michigan basketball side of things that the Wolverines can wrap up a commitment.

However, according to Davis Moseley, Michigan basketball is also heavily involved with former Memphis big man Malcolm Dandridge.

Dandridge, who is 6-foot-9, averaged six points and four rebounds last season for Memphis. He’s also a solid rim protector and would fill the need for a reserve big.

It’s one of the most significant needs on the roster for Michigan basketball. Tarris Reed is going to be a solid starter. But what happens if he’s hurt or gets in foul trouble?

There isn’t a clear-cut backup to Reed and Dandridge would provide that. You need frontcourt depth in the Big Ten and the idea of just Reed at center backed up by Will Tschetter always concerned me.

So I’d love the addition of Dandridge and it would be huge for depth, and if the Michigan Wolverines landed Perez too, this roster would look much more competitive heading into next season.

Michigan football’s new scoreboard is almost finished

The Big House has been getting some upgrades and there are new scoreboards going up. On Friday, there was an update shared as the new updates are nearly completed.

Michigan football fans everywhere can agree that the Big House is one of the best stadiums in college football. The upgrades in recent years have really helped in terms of keeping in the noise and it will be exciting to see what the new scoreboards look like when completed.
