Michigan Football a top contender for elite 2025 quarterbacks

Michigan football is focused on 2025 quarterback recruiting and both Bryce Underwood and Akili Smith Jr. have the Wolverines among their top teams. 

When it comes to Michigan football recruiting, five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood is the top overall recruit, regardless of class.

The Wolverines have 25 commitments in the 2024 class, but Jadyn Davis is locked up and Michigan football’s attention at quarterback is solely on the 2025 class.

Michigan football has been trending up in the recruitment of Underwood, a five-star signal-caller from Belleville, Michigan. He’s ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, as well as third overall.

Thanks to new quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell, the Wolverines have been rising in Underwood’s recruitment and on Monday, the elite quarterback tweeted pictures of Michigan football, Ohio State, LSU, and Alabama with the caption “decisions, decisions.”

We don’t know if that’s Underwood’s top four, but it certainly seems that way. Ohio State already has a 2025 quarterback commitment, so the Buckeyes will have to overcome that.

However, as we have seen this week with Justin Scott, you can’t count out the Buckeyes. LSU is a real threat and Underwood has also taken a visit to Alabama this summer.

Underwood also visited LSU this summer, as well as Ohio State. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder has visited Michigan football four times this spring. There is already a commitment date scheduled for Jan. 6 of 2024 

There haven’t been any crystal ball projections but Michigan football does have a slight lead via the On3 prediction machine.

Another elite quarterback will visit for recruiting BBQ

Bryce Underwood is the top target in the entire 2025 class. However, there are some other quarterbacks that Michigan football fans need to know and another is Akili Smith Jr. 

He’s the son of the former NFL quarterback Akili Smith, who was an Oregon star. His son is trending to Oregon, at least via the On3 prediction machine, however, Michigan football is among his top three along with Florida.

Smith Jr. recently visited Florida. He’s also going to visit unofficially for Michigan football’s recruiting BBQ according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine.

Ryan Montgomery is another quarterback to know for the 2024 class. He’s from the state of Ohio and visited Michigan football a number of times this spring. Montgomery is also a four-star prospect.

So in terms of quarterback recruiting in 2025, Michigan has plenty of options. Underwood is the No. 1 and landing the elite in-state quarterback is the top option, but as we have said, it’s smart for the Wolverines to not put all their eggs in one basket.
