Michigan football all-time Lloyd Carr team, Running backs: Mike Hart and Anthony Thomas

I’m going to put two running backs on the all-time Lloyd Carr team. It’s deserved and even that decision wasn’t easy.

Mike Hart is the all-time leading rusher for Michigan football. He’s the only Wolverine to ever hit 5,000 rushing yards and averaged five yards per attempt. Hart is also fourth in Michigan football history in rushing touchdowns.

Adding Anthony Thomas to the team means leaving off Chris Perry. But the A-Train is the all-time leader in Michigan football rushing touchdowns. He also played on the national title team and was part of three wins over Ohio State.

That’s in addition to consecutive seasons with over 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns. Thomas had over 1,500 yards rushing as a senior. A-Train was also never part of a Michigan football team that won fewer than 10 games.

That being said, Perry had a spectacular career too. He’s ranked in the top five in terms of rushing touchdowns and is seventh in rushing yards. But the 2003 season, in which he was a Heisman contender, wasn’t enough to overtake the career of Thomas.
