Michigan Football: The Good and The Bad on the Recruiting Trail
The good
Not all is bad! First, four-star edge Elias Rudolph is committing on July 3rd, and it appears he will pick Michigan. The Ohio kid who will play his senior season in Florida is an excellent recruit who will look to be a playmaker in the future. For the time being, the Wolverines appear to have beaten out the Buckeyes.
Next, Aaron Scott. I’m including him on both sides because his recruitment could go either way. Nobody knows what Aaron Scott is thinking except for Scott himself. I do know that Michigan has done everything it can in this recruitment, and that Scott loves Michigan. His commitment would be the biggest win of the cycle hands down. Many are expecting him to commit on July 4th, so keep your fingers crossed.
Jeremiah Beasley gave the Wolverines an important recruiting win when he committed to the Wolverines on Wednesday. The four-star linebacker chose Michigan over Michigan State and Missouri. Michigan did a great job of getting back into this race after being behind early.
Finally, there is some potentially big news. Notre Dame insider Mike Singer reported that Michigan “may be the team to beat” for five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott. This recruitment appears to have taken a turn since Scott’s official visit to the Wolverines.
EJ Holland reported that Scott, a Chicago native, is thinking more and more about staying closer to home instead of going down south. This bodes extremely well for Michigan, and it appears that the Wolverines may be in the driver’s seat at the moment.
Scott would obviously be a massive win for the Wolverines. He’s an elite talent that every program in America wants.
I will say that it’s important to temper your expectations with this one. Scott hasn’t set a timeline yet, so there’s no saying how long the Wolverines will have to protect their potential lead. For now, it appears far from over, but it is nonetheless a very positive sign.
Conclusion
It’s a hectic time for recruiting. With many top recruits set to make their commitments, the Wolverines were bound to get burned by some of them. While it’s unfortunate, that’s just how recruiting is.
Michigan continues to put itself into a great position on the recruiting trail, and it’ll be fascinating to see how this class develops over the next couple of months. Go Blue!
