We’ve reached the last full weekend of June, meaning official visit season will begin to slow down.

Michigan football has hosted top prospects every weekend in June, and this weekend is no different. In fact, this could be an extremely impactful weekend, as many top recruits are on campus right now.

While top EDGE prospect Darien Mayo, unfortunately, canceled his Michigan official visit and committed to Clemson, the Wolverines still have a great opportunity to make some big moves this weekend. Without further ado, let’s look at some of the top recruits currently on campus.

Top 50 WR Gatlin Bair (ID)

The #1 player in the state of Idaho and possibly the fastest football player in the country, Bair is an elite talent. However, his recruitment is not what you would expect. Currently, the top players seem to be Nebraska, Boise State, Oregon, and Michigan. This is a wide-open recruitment.

There is some optimism that the staff will be able to wow Bair and surge in this recruitment. There are a number of factors working for the Wolverines. First and obviously, Colston Loveland was the top recruit in Idaho for his class. Next, Bair plans on taking a two-year mission trip following his high school graduation, which is exactly what Michigan football offensive lineman Andrew Gentry did.

Lastly, Michigan’s strength program. Bair has stated how important strength and conditioning are, and nobody does that better than Ben Herbert. He could very well be the X-factor in this recruitment.

Look for Michigan football to surge in this recruitment.

Top 100 S Zaquan Patterson (FL)

A quick note for this one, Patterson is actually on an unofficial visit right now. That means he could still come to Michigan football for an official visit later in the year. That’s pretty huge, considering the other big player in this recruitment is hometown Miami.

Patterson plays with and is on campus with 2025 Michigan commit Chris Ewald Jr. Ewald who has been in Patterson’s ear constantly, and is a big reason the Wolverines have a shot in this one. Miami currently has the lead, and it’ll be tough to beat them out, but this one is far from over.

This is a winnable recruitment for the Wolverines, but it’ll take a lot of work. Keep an eye out for positive news regarding Patterson.

4 Star CB Jameer Grimsley (FL)

This is a bit of a new name. Grimsley is a tier below Aaron Scott and Bryce West but is 100% a take. The Wolverines have been slow playing it with Grimsley, but are now working to show him that he is a priority.

Penn State and Florida State are two programs thought to be strong contenders for Grimsley but look for the Wolverines to be up there following this visit. Once again, this will be a very tough one to win, but the Wolverines are capable of it.

It will be Grimsley’s first opportunity to get an in-depth look at the program, so this is definitely going to be one to watch.

4 Star CB Terhyon Nichols

Nichols, another defensive back from Ohio, seems to have had positive conversations with the Michigan football staff. Kentucky and Penn State are the two big players in this recruitment, but with a good visit, the Wolverines could take the lead.

With momentum shifting towards Ohio State for Bryce West, we could see the staff make Nichols more of a priority, and they could even push for a commitment. It’ll be Nichols first time getting an in-depth look at the program as well, so don’t be surprised if the Wolverines emerge from this one the leaders in his recruitment.

4 Star EDGE Jacob Smith

The brother of commit Jerod Smith is the most likely commitment candidate. It’s somewhat shocking that Jacob Smith still remains uncommitted, but I expect that to change over the coming days/weeks.

If the staff determines that Jacob Smith is a take, which they more than likely will, I see him making it official sooner rather than later. The Smith brothers have talked about wanting to play together in college, and they’ll have that opportunity at Michigan. Look for this one to wrap up shortly.

Conclusion

If Michigan football can land two or three guys from this group, it’ll be a success. The Wolverines definitely expect to land Jacob Smith, but they have realistic chances with everybody on this list. With the class approaching maximum capacity, don’t be shocked if some guys decide to pull the trigger on a commitment earlier than expected.
