Michigan football missed out on top target Bryce West and here’s what’s next for the Wolverines at cornerback in the 2024 class.

On Friday, I laid out some Michigan football recruiting targets that are taking visits elsewhere to keep an eye on and unfortunately, I was right to keep an eye on Bryce West visiting Ohio State.

West is a top-100 cornerback and one of the top recruits from the state of Ohio. He had said that his recruitment was down to Michigan football and Ohio State.

West recently took an official visit to see Michigan football and there was some optimism that the Wolverines could steal him away from the Buckeyes.

However, some recent crystal ball trends suggested otherwise and on Saturday, West made it official, announcing his commitment to Ohio State.

It’s a big disappointment for Michigan football but I don’t think anyone on the staff will be shocked and here’s a look at where the cornerback board stands with Bryce West now checked off.

What’s next for Michigan football at cornerback in 2024?

The next recruit to watch is four-star cornerback Aaron Scott. He’s also a top-100 cornerback from Ohio, with Michigan and the Buckeyes in his top two.

Scott is also taking an official visit to Ohio State this weekend. It seems like he’ll eventually make the same decision at West, but we don’t know that for sure.

Michigan felt like it was leading after his official visit to Ann Arbor, but we’ll see what the vibe is after the official visit and West’s commitment.

The good news is that Michigan football has a pair of four-star cornerbacks on campus this weekend for official visits. Terhyon Nichols of Cincinnati is one and he’s a four-star ranked 270th overall via the One Industry rankings.

Jameer Grimsley is another four-star cornerback. He’s from the state of Florida. He’s 6-foot-2 and ranked 199th overall according to On3.

Neither recruit has an overwhelming favorite at this point, so there’s a big opportunity for Michigan football with both targets.

And now that West, and probably Scott are coming off the board, it seems like a smart time to make a push for Nichols and Grimsley.
