Former Michigan basketball coach John Beilein has been connected by some to the West Virginia job, plus another Michigan football pledge, and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

It’s been a wild few weeks for Michigan basketball fans, but the offseason could get even crazier if former head coach John Beilein were to return to the sidelines at West Virginia.

To be clear, that won’t happen with Michigan basketball. As frustrated as some Michigan Wolverines fans are with Juwan Howard, I doubt he’s going anywhere. He’s not getting fired anytime soon.

Howard could maybe leave for the NBA someday, but I’ve got a feeling he’ll be around for a while. Remember, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for Beilein. He was on the hot seat a few times as Michigan basketball head coach before a stellar run that featured two trips to the Final Four, two Big Ten titles, and two Big Ten tournament titles.

Of course, Beilein came to Michigan basketball from West Virginia, and with Bob Huggins stepping down following his DUI, Beilein’s name has come up. We’ll see if there’s any legitimate interest.

It won’t bother me at all if Beilein goes back to West Virginia. If the man wants to coach, who cares? He’s done enough for Michigan basketball already.

Another commitment for Michigan football in 2024

The Michigan Wolverines keep tallying commitments on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class and picked up a pledge from three-star EDGE Devon Baxter.

Baxter is 6-foot-6, 235 pounds, and is ranked as the No. 503 prospect in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2024 class. He’s only got four sacks over the past two seasons but was credited with over 20 tackles for loss last season playing in Maryland.

It’s clear that Baxter is raw, but how many times has Michigan football taken a raw EDGE prospect and molded them into an NFL player?

You can see it happening with Baxer, who just looks like a future NFL player. Once Michigan football gets him in the weight room and hones his technique, he could really be a player and I’m confident in Mike Elston’s ability to get it out of him.
