Ranking Michigan Football’s Heisman contenders in 2023
By Nick Popio
1. Donovan Edwards
Edwards has all the intangibles an NFL coach could want in a running back. That’s why he is getting so much buzz if he decides to enter the 2024 NFL draft. He skyrocketed when it was his time in the limelight. The Ohio State performance alone made him a Michigan football legend that no one will forget any time soon.
Edwards finished the last three games with 520 yards rushing. He had 471 yards in the previous eight. Edwards might even keep Corum on the bench if he keeps torching defenses like that.
With newcomers like Ben Hall, and Cole Cabana, and mainstays like C.J. Stokes and Kalel Mullings, Edwards probably won’t be used much at the beginning of the schedule, but he and Corum become more important as the weather gets colder.
He’ll likely be on a pitch count until October unless he goes bonkers and the coaches have no choice but to overwork him and try to win the Heisman.
Just imagine though what he can do when he is fully healthy and the clear-cut starter over Corum.
