The maize and blue’s offense is littered with playmakers, but only about three will get the consideration of the national audience this fall.

All eyes will be on Michigan football’s offense when they line up on September 2nd. They have the ingredients to lead the nation in rushing with the country’s best offensive line and two backs who can take it to the house on any given snap. Figure in a quarterback who is eager to prove that he is more than just a game manager and a coordinator who is going to be a head coach very soon.

Here is how Michigan’s top three candidates, on offense, rank in their pursuit of the early betting odds to become the school’s next Heisman winner.

3. J.J. McCarthy

There was a rumor flying around that Michigan’s offense is going to be 50/50 this year. That’s hard to believe after watching it roll the last two successful seasons with an unstoppable ground game. An equal split would really strengthen McCarthy’s chances at translating to the next level and help recruit future generations like Jadyn Davis. He did grow up in a hurry at the end of last year, besides a few throws in the TCU loss.

For McCarthy to realistically be considered as a legit Heisman contender he’ll have to put up video game numbers like Caleb Williams did last year. That’s averaging about 65% completion percentage, 50 yards or so rushing an outing, and at least three or four touchdowns per week, not to mention factoring in his quarterback rating.

McCarthy has flashed these signs, but not consistently. Putting it all together this year has got to be a goal of his and the Michigan football coaches. He’s got a plethora of weapons to choose from, so there should be no excuses for McCarthy, especially after going into Columbus and executing like he did.
