Michigan Wolverines news: A 4-star commitment, top target sets decision date, and more
Michigan football landed another blue-chip recruit in the 2024 class on Friday, plus much more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.
There was plenty to be happy about on Friday for Michigan football fans and it started with the commitment of four-star wideout I’Marion Stewart.
Stewart is a dynamic player who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4. He’s 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, and a guy that reminds you of Roman Wilson. That was a comparison the Michigan football staff used with Stewart in their conversations and it makes sense.
Out of Illinois, Stewart is yet another big recruiting victory in the Chicago area. It’s also the 20th commitment already for the Michigan Wolverines in the 2024 class.
Stewart is the second wide receiver pledge for U-M in 2024. He joins Channing Goodwin, who committed in May. Jordan Shipp, another four-star wideout in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2024 class has also been trending with projections to commit to Michigan football.
Top Michigan football target to decide on July 1st
Another commitment for the Michigan Wolverines shouldn’t be too far away. Deyvid Palepale, who has been trending to Michigan football with crystal ball projections, announced on Twitter that he’ll make his commitment known on July 1st.
Penn State and USC are the other two schools in the mix. Palepale is 6-foot-3, 288 pounds and he’s a three-star recruit ranked 788 overall in the 2024 class via the 247 Sports composite rankings out of Landisville, Pennsylvania.
Palepale already took official visits to Michigan football and Penn State this month. The next is set for USC on June 23rd. The Michigan Wolverines are the heavy favorite, but the Trojans could change that, and in recruiting, you just never know.
There are lots of reasons to feel optimistic about another 2024 commitment though.
Victors Weekend has arrived for Michigan football
The Michigan Wolverines have a total of 17 recruits set to be on campus this weekend and 16 of them are official visitors. Jordan Shipp is an unofficial visitor, which is another good sign for Michigan football in his recruitment.
What’s interesting is that of the 17 recruits on campus this weekend, 13 of them are already committed. Jadyn Davis, who excelled in the final portion of the Elite 11 and was ranked fifth overall by 247 Sports, will be taking his official visit along with many others.
In terms of the uncommitted recruits, Aaron Scott is probably the biggest name. The Ohio cornerback has been trending to the Buckeyes and this could be the last chance for Michigan football to turn the tide.
Jeremiah Beasley is visiting this weekend. The Wolverines are also the crystal ball leader with the in-state linebacker, despite another push from Michigan State. He’s expected to decide before the end of June.
Three-star EDGE Devon Baxter (6-foot-6, 225) is another visitor that’s not committed. Maryland is probably the strongest contender and with all the EDGE targets in play, Baxter is another interesting name.
The On3 prediction machine gives the Michigan Wolverines a 93-percent chance to win his commitment.
Michael Uni is an offensive tackle from Texas that’s also visiting. I don’t see Michigan football being able to take him and Bennett Warren, especially with five offensive line commitments already in the 2024 class, but you never know.
Uni is ranked 149th overall via the On3 Industry rankings. Texas and Alabama lead via the On3 prediction machine but his recruitment feels wide open.
Stay tuned.
