Michigan football has added its 20th verbal commitment to the 2024 class in I’Marion Stewart and here are three thoughts for the Wolverines.

Back on March 31st, Michigan football landed the commitment of quarterback Jadyn Davis and the 2024 class has been building since then.

On Friday, Michigan football added another talented piece, one that will catch passes from Davis in the future as four-star wideout I’Marion Stewart, one of the top recruits in the state of Illinois for the 2024 class is now a Michigan Wolverines commitment.

Stewart announced his decision on Youtube on Friday. Wisconsin made a push at the end, plus other schools were in the mix such as Wisconsin, Colorado, Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami, and Oregon.

Yet, Michigan football won out, and here’s what Stewart told Allen Trieu of 247 Sports:

"“First off, it was the feeling I get from Michigan,” Stewart said when explaining his commitment. “The feeling I had there was that it always felt like home. The relationship they built wasn’t just with me, but with my family members also — my mom and dad. They would check in every day to see how we were all doing. Coach Moore and Coach Bellamy did that for sure.”"

This is the second straight month that Michigan football has landed a wide receiver in the 2024 class and here are three thoughts on this latest commitment.

Another win in Illinois

It kind of gets overlooked, but the Wolverines have done really well recruiting in the state of Illinois. J.J. McCarthy was originally from Illinois before going to the IMG Academy.

Tyler Morris was another blue-chip signee from Illinois along with Trevor Keegan, Jimmy Rolder, A.J. Henning, Jyaire Hill, and others.

It’s been an impressive run in the state. Notre Dame used to have a stronger grip on the state of Illinois, in part because of the Chicago area. But Michigan has really made a move in the state. It’s making one in St. Louis too and it’s good to see from a long-term recruiting perspective.

What Stewart brings to Michigan football

In his interview with 247 Sports, Stewart says the Michigan football staff compared him to Roman Wilson and that makes a ton of sense.

Stewart is probably a little bigger than Wilson, but he’s a true deep threat. His Twitter page states that he runs the 40-yard dash in 4.44. He had nearly 1,000 yards receiving last season and his addition will come at a perfect time for the Wolverines.

The four-star from Illinois is the top-ranked pass catcher committed for the Wolverines in the 2024 class and could eventually be a top target of QB commitment Jadyn Davis.

Is Michigan nearly done at wide receiver?

The Wolverines have now landed Stewart and Channing Goodwin, a three-star (according to the 247 Sports composite rankings). Goodwin is a teammate of Davis and that connection should pay off for both players in Ann Arbor.

Another wide receiver that’s currently a teammate of Davis is also trending to Michigan and that’s Jordan Shipp. Michigan football is looking like a strong favorite after his recent official visit.

Three seems like a solid number, although I could see it getting to four if Gatlin Bair wants to be part of Michigan’s 2024 class. He’s expected to take a Mormon Mission and won’t play until 2026.

Bair is an incredible athlete, so Michigan would still want his commitment. It will just be a while before he’ll actually be on the field.

Stewart, he could have a chance to see the field right away and there’s a strong chance he’s the top-ranked pass catcher to sign in this class.
