Bryce West Cancelled his USC Visit and had some Interesting Things to Say

A few weeks ago, it seemed all but certain that elite Ohio cornerback recruit Bryce West would end up a Buckeye. Today, however, things have changed.

West visited the Michigan football this past weekend and was extremely positive about his experience. Things went so well, that West was reported saying “Right now, it’s 50-50” (per recruits cfb on Instagram). This is a promising sign for a Wolverines team that appeared dead in the water just a short time ago.

With West canceling his USC visit for the upcoming weekend, an interesting question arises. Could we see West join his friend and fellow elite cornerback recruit Aaron Scott in Ann Arbor this weekend?

You’ve got to imagine that the coaching staff is putting the idea into West’s head. While I wouldn’t bet on it, I’d keep an eye out for that. Remember, it’s not uncommon for guys to unofficially visit a school shortly after officially visiting; Jordan Shipp will be back on campus after visiting the first weekend of June.

Michigan football is definitely trending in the correct direction, but they’re going to have to make some kind of move to win West over. As Chad Simmons of ON3 reported, West thinks that he’ll know his decision in early July. While that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll announce a decision, that’s not a great sign considering the Buckeyes get him on campus June 23rd.

I think that right now, it really is a 50-50 recruitment. After he visits Ohio State, however, I do expect the Buckeyes to lead.

One factor that could work in Michigan’s favor is Boo Carter. Carter, a fellow defensive back the Wolverines have recruited heavily, was frequently seen with Bryce West on their visit.

Carter is scheduled to choose between Michigan football and Tennessee on June 17th. This is an extremely tight recruitment as the Volunteers are the hometown team, but a commitment from Carter would certainly be a positive boost for West.

To conclude, yes, the Wolverines do have a real chance with Bryce West. However, they’re going to have to make a big move to keep their momentum despite West visiting Ohio State. If they can do that, they’ll be in a good position.
