Michigan Football: Don’t worry about the Jadyn Davis rankings
Jadyn Davis is no longer a five-star quarterback via the 247 Sports composite rankings, but who cares? Michigan football fans shouldn’t.
You have probably read or seen something on the internet about Jadyn Davis getting dropped from a five-star quarterback down to a four-star, which was a recent development for the Michigan football commitment in 2024.
But who really cares? It’s not like Davis took a massive tumble in the rankings. He’s ranked 35th overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s also still the fourth-ranked quarterback overall in the 2024 class.
247 Sports still has Davis rated as a five-star prospect in their rankings, but some other services have had him lower. That’s fine. At the end of the day, the only evaluation I really trust is the one made by the Michigan football staff.
Don’t worry about the Jadyn Davis ranking update
Those guys know what they’re doing more than any recruiting analyst does. Besides, a top-35 recruit regardless of position and fourth among quarterbacks is still a massive win for Michigan football, which is getting a future starter in Davis.
Not only are the Wolverines getting a quarterback in Davis that’s likely to start and play early. He’s also likely going to play in the NFL someday. Re-creating that NFL pipeline of Michigan football quarterbacks to the NFL is important.
When J.J. McCarthy gets drafted, he’ll be the first Michigan football quarterback selected since Jake Rudock and the first to go in the first couple of rounds since Chad Henne.
Davis should follow in those footsteps too. So don’t worry about the rankings drop. I can guarantee you the Michigan football staff shouldn’t.
I know there was a camp where Davis was reportedly out-performed by Air Noland. It is what it is. The Elite 11 is coming up and Davis will get a chance to redeem himself.
Besides, nothing that happens in the underwear Olympics matters that much. Even in 7-on-7, quarterbacks aren’t being hit and pressured. Plenty of NFL quarterbacks that went bust would have looked great if all they had to do was throw 7-on-7 all day.
The point is, even the Elite 11 isn’t that much of an indicator. Davis is an elite passer and he’ll be elite for Michigan football. That’s all anyone needs to care about.
