What about the defensive backs?

Some of the other big names in attendance were three four-star defensive backs: Bryce West, Boo Carter, and Jordon Johnson-Rubell. If you’re active on social media, you’ve likely seen these three interacting quite a bit over the past few days, throwing around the idea of playing together at Michigan. While it doesn’t mean that Michigan football leads for all, or any of them, it’s definitely a positive.

With Bryce West, he has a USC visit next weekend and an Ohio State visit the following. I think it’s essentially down to Michigan and Ohio State. Right now, I’d give Ohio State the edge by a slim margin. For Michigan to feel good, West has to leave his Ohio State visit without a commitment.

I sound like a broken record, but Michigan football needs to get him back on campus for a game. If the Wolverines do that, I think they can win him over. They made real progress with West over the weekend, and overcoming Ohio State is definitely possible.

Boo Carter’s recruitment is definitely going to be the most interesting over the coming week. Carter is announcing his commitment on June 17th, and it’s down to Michigan and Tennessee. The home-state Volunteers have been pitching NIL and held a lead prior to his Michigan visit.

However, all indications are that Carter’s visit went as well as it could have, and combined with Michigan’s newly announced NIL initiative, they can compete better with Tennessee’s NIL. I really don’t know what to say about this recruitment. Steve Clinkscale has done a masterful job with Carter.

I think that this is a legitimate 50-50 recruitment. With Michigan getting the last official visit, however, I think they can win this. Keep your eyes out on the 17th.

Lastly, Jordon Johnson-Rubell. Michigan entered this visit surging in recruitment, and they continued to grow their momentum on the visit. Johnson-Rubell is scheduled to visit Ohio State next weekend and Texas the following weekend. He will announce his commitment two weeks after that.

Michigan has turned into a true contender for his services, but they’ll have to overcome Texas, who is the current leader. Communication will be key here. I think the pick will be Texas, but you never know.

Regardless, this recruitment will not end when Johnson-Rubell commits. This one will go all the way to national signing day.
