Michigan Wolverines news: New 2024 projections at running back, Michigan basketball targets a new transfer, and more
The Michigan Wolverines got a new expert projection to a running back target in the 2024 class, plus Michigan baskeball has reached out to a new transfer.
The Michigan football program is hosting a number of big-time recruits on campus this weekend. There are multiple five-star prospects including defensive tackle Justin Scott and also wideout Ryan Wingo.
Another key target on campus this weekend for Michigan football is three-star running back Micah Ka’apana.
Ka’apana is a three-star running back according to the On3 Industry rankings. He’s No. 767 overall in the 2024 class and ahead of his official visit, both EJ Holland and Zach Libby of The Wolverine have put in expert projections for him to land with Michigan football.
That has given the Michigan Wolverines a 97-percent chance to win his commitment via the On3 prediction machine. Ka’apana might not be five-star running back Taylor Tatum, who visited USC and was projected to the Trojans soon after his visit, but he’d be a good addition to the class.
The Taylor recruitment might not be over yet. Michigan football will still get a chance for an official visit. But it’s starting to look like Ka’apana will be the second take at running back for the Michigan Wolverines in the 2024 class and I have no problem with that.
I don’t know when a possible commitment would come, but it might be something to watch coming out of this official visit weekend.
Michigan basketball talks to Rutgers transfer
We knew that Michigan basketball was going to try and make more additions via the transfer portal. On Friday, Paul Mulcahy from Rutgers surprisingly entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer and the Wolverines were quick to reach out.
Yes, Mulcahy is technically a point guard. But he’s 6-foot-7, so he can definitely play other spots. He’s a solid defender and is a career 36-percent 3-point shooter. He’s only averaged about half a 3-point make per game, so he’s not a high-volume shooter, but he’s not bad either.
Beyond that, Michigan baskeball could really use another playmaker. We also saw last season, you can never have enough good guards. So even though Mulcahy isn’t a Caleb Love type scorer, he woud be a valuable addition to the Michigan Wolverines nonetheless.
