5-star WR Ryan Wingo

Here’s a name that hasn’t been talked about much over the past few months. Wingo, a Missouri native and heavy Georgia lean, has been trending away from Michigan football since the start of the New Year.

The Wolverines were thought to be out of it, but the commitment of Jadyn Davis combined with the relentlessness of Ron Bellamy have given the Wolverines a chance. However, it’ll take a miracle to pull him out of the South.

My confidence in this recruitment is close to zero. Nobody should expect Wingo to sign with the Wolverines. However, this is a positive sign for the future. Michigan football has been hammering the idea that they’re going to be more of a 50-50 team this year, and it seems to be resonating with recruits.

They’ve explicitly said time and time again that they plan on slinging the ball around more and making the offense more dynamic. That philosophy, combined with the fact that the Wolverines will have a five-star playmaker at quarterback after JJ McCarthy departs, is creating some interest among the nation’s best wide receivers.

So while Wingo will likely stay south, if Michigan does in fact air it out more this season, we could see elite wide receiver recruits taking serious looks at Michigan as soon as next year (especially if Bryce Underwood commits!).

Nonetheless, there is always a chance that Harbaugh and co. could pull a rabbit out of the hat. Wingo is an incredibly talented recruit who will likely be a star in college. Getting him on an official visit itself is a win for Michigan football. They’re gonna throw the sink at Wingo and do everything in their power to move the needle just a bit.
