Michigan Football Recruiting: Big Names Visiting the Wolverines
We’ve reached the first huge recruiting weekend of the summer for the Wolverines, and the stars will be out
The Wolverines are hosting a plethora of elite recruits the second weekend of June, and they’ll be looking to put themselves into a better position for all of them. Michigan football has been on fire on the recruiting trail and will have a chance to convince top prospects that Michigan is the right choice for them.
This has the potential to be one of the biggest weekends of the summer for the Wolverines if they can move the needle for some of these prospects. While they may not be favored currently, we’ve seen magic happen on Michigan football visits before.
Let’s take a look at some of the top recruits planning on being in Ann Arbor for the June 9th weekend.
5 Star DL Justin Scott
A Chicago native, I’ve always believed that the Wolverines would have a chance if they could get Scott back onto campus. Currently, the perceived favorite is Miami, with Notre Dame, Georgia, and Ohio State also in hot pursuit of the touted prospect.
Scott recently visited Georgia and had very positive things to say about the Bulldogs. The Wolverines are going to have to knock it out of the park with Scott to have a chance.
At the moment, Michigan football probably finds itself in third or fourth place in this recruitment. However, Mike Elston and co will have a ton to pitch to Scott. The Wolverines had a freshman superstar on the interior of the line last year in Mason Graham and may have another future superstar in Kenneth Grant (along with Kris Jenkins, of course).
Mazi Smith was just taken in the first round, and the Michigan football defensive line room has had tons of success under Jim Harbaugh. To add on, it’s clear that Michigan’s NIL is at least somewhat improving. They’ve been much more competitive on that front during this cycle.
It will take a lot for Michigan to get in a good position with Scott, but an official visit means that there’s a chance. The Wolverines will have to hope that Scott decides to wait until the season starts to make his commitment. Remember, Scott was originally supposed to commit at the end of January, until he didn’t.
If the Wolverines can get Scott to wait on a commitment and come back for a game at the Big House, that’s their path to success. They have a geographic advantage over Georgia and Miami and will have to pitch that to Scott.
