Michigan basketball still has work to do

This was a big addition for Michigan. There’s no debate about that. But the Wolverines still have two open scholarships and a need for another scorer at guard or on the wing.

Adding Nkamhoua boosts the Wolverines’ chances of making the NCAA tournament. However, they could still use another proven veteran at the 2/3 with Caleb Love leaving.

It’s not going to be easy to find a high-volume scorer. There have been rumblings about Antonio Reeves on Kentucky possibly entering the transfer portal. If that happens, Michigan is expected to pursue and the roster looks a lot better now than it did a couple of days ago.

At the very least, it seems like there are more options in terms of adding a guard or a wing than another quality big. Nkamhoua was one of the last ones and finally, Michigan was able to upgrade the four position.

I wouldn’t expect two more additions. I don’t think Michigan basketball will use all 13 scholarships in the 2023-24 season, but one more addition wouldn’t surprise me. A 3-point shooter is desperately needed.

Nkamhoua was also desperately needed. So even though there still is work to do, this is something to celebrate for Michigan basketball fans.
