There are many question marks about the 2023 Michigan football team, but here are three questions worth asking about the Wolverines.

The 2023 Michigan football was always going to be good. But when guys like Blake Corum, Mike Sainristil, Kris Jenkins, Zak Zinter, Trevor Keegan, Michael Barrett, Cornelius Johnson, and others decided to return, it was clear that the goal was to win a national title.

However, that’s much easier said than done.

Georgia had some great teams before it won a national championship. Ohio State had some really good teams that didn’t even make the title game. Michigan football is in that same boat too.

The Wolverines have struggled in the playoff and beyond that, they have struggled in bowl games under Jim Harbaugh. Michigan dominated its first bowl game under Jim Harbaugh but has since dropped six in a row.

That’s one question mark. We are going to explore it and two others as we are now less than 100 days from the start of the 2023 Michigan football season.

Can Michigan win a bowl/playoff game?

If everything goes as planned for the Wolverines and they are able to make their way back to the College Football Playoff, they will have to find a way to do something they haven’t done since 2015 — win a bowl game.

Michigan football has played in lots of marquee bowl games, so the opponents have been tough, but they should have won some of those games and last year’s Fiesta Bowl is among those.

The Wolverines might have been overconfident. But they played their worst game at the worst possible time and even without Blake Corum, it should have gone differently.

This year, Michigan will have to figure this out. It can’t have another bowl game failure if it wants a chance to play for the national championship. Dealing with that long layoff isn’t easy and the Wolverines need to find a way to make sure they are better prepared this time around.
